This is super interesting but continues to point to exactly what is happening at a cellular level in our bodies. It seems like the affected tissues are themselves creating pain and tension by their fibrotic nature- which on some level makes complete sense. Lower inflammation from carbs can cause some relief but really that doesn’t affect the root cause.

My take away here is more that we just need MORE science. Being seen and these studies are so validating and to the point of your summary here- that alone is healing in a way.

Appreciate all the work your doing to start these conversations ❤️

I agree with your take..

The direction of the research increasingly points to cellular and microvascular changes in affected tissue, including fibrosis, extracellular matrix remodeling, and local inflammatory signaling. If the tissue structure is altered, it makes sense that pain and tension can be generated from within the tissue itself.

Lowering refined carbohydrates may reduce systemic inflammation and give symptom relief for some, but it does not necessarily address the underlying structural drivers. Those likely involve hormones, microcirculation, immune activity, and fibrotic remodeling.

And yes, the main conclusion is that we need more science!! <3 More is coming, so stay with me :))

This is a great article.

I wish there was more research and information out there about all things Lipedema - as it says, everything is so segmented.

I’ll be discussing the low carb diet with my GP and hopefully be able to give it a shot 🤞🏻

I really appreciate you putting this information out into the public domain - thanks ☺️

Thank you, Shelly. I’m glad the article was useful :))

I agree, the research is still fragmented.. We have pieces of the puzzle, but not enough integration yet.

It makes sense to discuss dietary changes with your GP, or with a nutritionist who understands lipedema, especially if you are considering low carb. If you try it, aim for a whole food approach rather than swapping to ultra processed “low carb” products. For some women it reduces symptom load, for others it makes little difference. The key is to monitor how your own body responds over time.

And thank you for reading and engaging <3 More open conversations are exactly what we need!
