Lipedema does not look the same in everyone and it does not progress in the same way for all patients. Clinically, the condition is described in different stages that reflect how the disease can develop over time. These stages are based on changes in fat tissue structure, how the tissue moves under the skin, and what doctors observe during a clinical examination. Understanding the stages can help explain why symptoms, pain, and physical appearance may differ between individuals and why early recognition of lipedema can matter for long term management.
