Six months ago, I started LipedemaScience.
Since then, so much has happened..
Readers from 44 countries have joined. Around 25,000 people now read the articles every month. I have interviewed women with lipedema, shared parts of my own journey, spoken with specialists, and started building a more professional platform under the domain www.lipedemascience.com.
And honestly, this is just the beginning..
My background is in nutrition and food science. I have studied inflammation, cell biology, bioactive peptides, DNA, microbiology, gut health, and scientific writing. I have also been a co-author on scientific publications involving whole genome sequencing of pathogenic bacteria. So when I write about lipedema, I do it from two places at once: from the lived experience of having the condition, and from a deep scientific curiosity about what is actually happening in the body.
I was diagnosed with lipedema in 2012 at Aker Hospital in Norway. Since then, I have had four surgeries. Today, my own lipedema management is built around weight control, hormone and stress management, nutrient-dense food, movement, and trying to live a balanced life. For me, that means healthy habits most of the time, but also space to enjoy life, food, wine, travel, and the present moment.
My passion is understanding lipedema in depth. Not just the surface-level explanations. Not just the before-and-after pictures. I want to understand the biology, the inflammation, the hormones, the pain, the connective tissue, the fat cells, the lymphatic system, the vascular system, nutrition, surgery, conservative treatment, and the lived experience behind all of it.
And I want to share that with you…
On www.lipedemascience.com, you can now explore different sections: Me, Research, Experts, Stories, Nutrition & Food Science, Lifestyle, Q&A, Surveys, and VLOG. The VLOG section is still empty, but it is coming later.
The next year is going to be big..
Be part of this journey. Learn something new about lipedema every week, and support my work in making lipedema knowledge more accessible to everyone.
And if you are already a subscribing member of LipedemaScience, thank you for being here and for supporting my work. You are a big part of what makes it possible for me to keep doing this.
Yes, I also do it for myself. I have been digging into lipedema for years because I need to understand my own body. But sharing that work with you, with women who are just as passionate as I am about understanding lipedema on a deeper level, makes it even more meaningful.
