Lipedema: Insights into Morphology, Pathophysiology, and Challenges (part 6)
Biomarkers: Current and future perspectives to combat lipedema.
Biomarkers are measurable signals that can help identify a disease, ideally in an objective way. For lipedema, this is still a major gap. Because the condition is often misdiagnosed and research is still developing, reliable biomarkers have been hard to pin down.
The authors of the paper argue that progress in two areas could change this. First, clearer imaging standards could help doctors recognize lipedema more consistently. Second, even a small set of trustworthy biomarkers could support earlier and more accurate diagnosis. In this review, the authors highlight a few candidates that may be promising as future lipedema biomarkers.
