I Ate Bread, Ice Cream, and Still Took Care of My Lipedema
A weekend in Kraków with my mom and my 12-year-old niece, and what it actually looks like to find balance in real life.
I didn’t eat “perfectly” this weekend. And I didn’t want to.
It is not long ago since I published an interview with a wonderful woman sharing her lipedema journey. She lives in Canada, and through conversations with many Canadian women, I’ve gotten the impression that lipedema is still not fully acknowledged there. If that’s wrong, please tell me. But what I’ve heard again and again is that many women travel abroad for treatment. Several go to Europe. Laura Kerr had her surgery in Poland.
You can read her story here:
This weekend, I was in Poland for the third time, and in Kraków for the second.
The last time I was there was in 2022, just a couple of months after my fourth lipedema surgery. I remember that trip very clearly. I travelled with my partner and friends, and my body was still holding a lot of fluid. Everything felt heavy. Sensitive. Not sharp pain, just that constant swollen feeling.
This time was completely different.
