Did you know there are two different types of lipedema pain?
Have you ever noticed that your legs sometimes feel like they are about to burst, heavy and tight as if the skin cannot stretch any further? And at other times, the pain feels completely different — deep, gnawing, almost like a toothache inside the fat itself?
Many people living with lipedema assume that pain is just “part of it.” Few are told that there are actually two biologically distinct pain patterns involved. Understanding this difference can be empowering. When you recognize what kind of pain you are experiencing, you also understand why your body reacts the way it does — and why certain strategies help in one situation but not the other.
Below, I will explain the two main categories of lipedema pain and what is happening inside the tissue in each case.
