Berberine and Lipedema
No direct lipedema proof, but berberine targets upstream drivers many women face, including insulin resistance, inflammation, and stress driven weight gain.
Eating healthy, biohacking, and all the wellness strategies can become expensive very quickly. When I discovered my hormonal challenges related to fertility a year and a half ago, I went deep down the rabbit hole of everything I could possibly do to improve my situation. I spent a significant amount of money each month on supplements such as bioactive Q10 in the form of ubiquinol rather than ubiquinone, melatonin, NAD+, L-arginine, DHEA prescribed by my doctor, omega-3, NAC, and many others. I have gone through three egg retrievals so far and am currently in the middle of hormonal stimulation for my fourth.

Over time, I realized I needed a more sustainable approach. Now I mainly stick to the basics: a multivitamin and omega-3 with extra vitamin D, adjusted according to blood tests. I also place strong emphasis on nutrient-dense food, which I believe is the most important foundation for overall health.
There are countless supplements available, but I try to avoid taking too many over long periods, apart from omega-3 with vitamin D, and a multivitamin. I also rotate between different suppliers, because supplements are not regulated as strictly as medications. This means there can be quality issues, including contamination or unwanted substances.
That said, I sometimes experiment with a supplement for a limited period before switching to something else. One supplement that keeps appearing in lipedema Facebook groups and has caught my attention is berberine. If you have tried it, I would love to hear about your experience:
So what is berberine, and why does it keep popping up in lipedema spaces..?
Berberine is a plant derived alkaloid found in species such as barberry. In clinical research it is most often discussed in the context of metabolic health, meaning blood sugar regulation, insulin sensitivity, lipid profile, and markers of inflammation. Several systematic reviews and umbrella reviews conclude that berberine can improve glycemic and lipid markers in a range of metabolic conditions, while the overall quality of evidence varies across outcomes and study designs.
